Verizon has recently released reviews for some of the most popular Android apps on the market. They ranked the apps according to security, battery consumption, and data usage. Below is a screenshot of the most popular downloadable apps in the Google Play store for January.
To find out more information about an app, simply click on the line. A new window will pop up, providing a short description as well as ratings for the three primary categories. For example, below are the details for the Angry Birds app.
So how does Verizon rate the apps? To judge the security level, the application is scanned to see if it is capable of performing harmful activities or reading private information without permission. Verizon then evaluates the level of risk and provides a rating. To judge battery consumption, Verizon simply measures the battery drain from the app when it’s open but not being used. And to judge data usage, they look at how much data the app sends and receives when it’s open and running but not actually being used.
