By now you've probably heard about the massive tornadoes that tore through the state of Oklahoma the past two days. Many people across the country and around the world have asked how they can help.
The quickest and easiest way to make a difference in the lives of those affected is to use your cellphone. You can text STORM to 80888 to donate $10 to Salvation Army, REDCROSS to 90999 to donate $10 to the Red Cross, and and FOOD to 32333 to donate $10 to the Oklahoma Regional Food Bank. All of these charges will appear on your next phone bill.
Another way to donate is to directly visit these sites. It can take up to 90 days for the text donations to reach the organizations, so if you want your donation to make a difference earlier, go to
salvationarmyusa.org or
redcross.org.
There will be many other organizations accepting donations, but unless you are personally familiar with one of them, the Salvation Army or Red Cross is the best way to help. These are well-known and trusted organizations that help in disasters on a regular basis. They will ensure your donation is used to truly help those that need it.
