When you buy a custom-made item of premium leather, it’s an investment. We know that, and while repeat business is nice, we’re here to make you happy – not to make you buy the same item over again. New unused leather, still flexible with oils put in by the tannery, still needs little initial care when you get it home. Before you use your wallet or bag, take a few minutes to pretreat it with a finishing wax, to prevent stains from hand lotion, perfumes, cosmetics or ink. After that, you can wait six months before cleaning it. This gives the leather time to create its own unique patina, and to soften into its natural creases and folds. Every six months, it’s advisable to apply a couple of coats of a conditioner like mink oil with a natural sea sponge. Don’t be afraid to be generous with the mink oil, and allow it to soak in overnight before working the remaining oil into the leather. Rub the oil into all the seams and any of the tough areas that are prone to cracking. Top it off with a leather protecting spray. There are many water-proof options available. Finally, think twice about throwing your purse on the floor or leaving your wallet lying out in the hot sun. If you take good care of your premium leather, it will pay you back in full by giving you your money’s worth over many years to come.
